Review

Rich Dad Poor Dad

By Robert T. Kiyosaki

In this book, Robert Kiyosaki exposes the failures of an outdated schooling system and the inflation that took the world by storm, especially since going off the Gold Standard.

He shows us that with the right mindset, we can reach our ultimate goal of financial freedom. It’s true that money can’t buy happiness, but having control over your time which is your most valuable asset can sure bring you happiness. Spending time with your loved one and getting to pursue your passions is what financial freedom allows you to do and is all what life is about.

The author tackles how the 19th century schooling system, created to sustain the industrial revolution and produce model workers, is obsolete. The idea of finishing school and landing a high earning job is hammered in our heads since a young age. Being shackled to a job to be able to pay the bills is what he calls “the rat race”. Employees retire at an old age and are then unable to provide for themselves. School does not teach them about personal finances, taxes, investment and retirement plan.

Enters the two main characters Robert Kiyosaki refers to in his book: His educated father, a university teacher who encourages him a get a job, and he’s friend’s father who agrees to become his mentor and teach him everything about the right mindset and how to become a successful investor and entrepreneur.

We often hear that people are predisposed to become either employees or entrepreneurs. The author undermines this concept and explains that with the right mindset and self education, we can all aspire to get out of the “rat race” and live our lives to its full potential.

I highly recommend reading this book and encouraging your teanagers to learn about all the new possibilities and starting their adult life on the right foot.
